The Centennial of the Restoration of the State with the concert by Mūza Rubackytė
On 1 February, Lithuanian Embassy in South Africa organized a concert to commemorate the Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania. The recital by famous Lithuanian pianist Mūza Rubackytė was the first in the concert series, dedicated to the Centennial of the Restoration of the State, in South Africa.
The Ambassador greeted the guests by emphasizing that the Declaration of Independence of 1918 was and is a vibrant expression of our nation’s never-ending quest for freedom. “The Declaration of Independence of 1918 motivated Lithuanians and was the inspiration for the re-establishment of our State’s Independence in 1990,” the Ambassador Sigutė Jakštonytė told the Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, parliament members and the other representatives of the South African Government, the diplomatic corps, residing in South Africa, the members of litvak community and business representatives.
While continuing her tour, Mūza Rubackytė will perform at the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival on 3 February, and on 5 February, at the Knysa Plett Concert Series in Knysna. The pianist together with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform the programme for the Centennial of the Restoration of Lithuania at the 12th International Summer Music Festival on 8 February in Cape Town.
