Minister L. Linkevičius meets with Finnish Foreign Minister in Vilnius

On 29 August in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and discussed important security issues in the Baltic Sea region, the development of the bilateral relationship between Lithuania and Finland, the situation in Belarus, as well as other relevant issues on the international agenda.
The two Foreign Ministers see the situation in Belarus similarly. According to them, there is a clear need for a dialogue between the government and the opposition. Moreover, the new presidential election has to be held.
During the meeting, the two Ministers exchanged information on the efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 and the possible tightening of coronavirus restrictions due to an increase in cases in recent weeks. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also shared the latest information on the state of play regarding the Ostrovets nuclear power plant.
“Finland is our close neighbor in the region and a reliable partner of Lithuania. We welcome the dynamic and positive bilateral relationship between our countries. We cooperate closely in regional formats such as the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8), especially in the search for solidarity-based solutions for regional security," said L. Linkevičius.
During his visit to Vilnius, the Finnish Foreign Minister also met with representatives of the Belarusian NGOs and the opposition.
