On 3 October, a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and handed a note declaring the chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabokon as persona non grata. Sergey Ryabokon is given five days to leave the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania strongly condemns Russia’s illegal decision to annex the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, parts of which are under temporary Russian occupation, announced today, on 30 September 2022 by the President of Russia.

On September 14, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ireland, Simon Coveney, visited Odesa (Ukraine), where they met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba. At the meeting, G. Landsbergis emphasized the necessity to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in order to avoid a nuclear catastrophe in Europe. To achieve this, complete expulsion of the Russian occupation forces, with the help of the international community and coalition of the willing is needed.

On the 31rd of August the Government of the Republic of Lithuania has approved the nomination of Chief Commissioner, Deputy Police Commissioner General of Lithuanian Police, Arūnas Paulauskas for the position of Vice President for Europe at the Executive Committee of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) for the term 2022-2025.

On 3 August, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved the nomination of Prof. Rimvydas Laužikas for the Expert position in the Evaluation Body of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the term 2023-2026. The candidate's election campaign will be run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
