The first bilateral political consultations held in Namibia

On 20 September 2019, the first bilateral political consultation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia were held in Windhoek. The main issues discussed were ways to strengthen political and economic relations and boost trade and investment between the two countries.
Bilateral political consultations held between Lithuania and South Africa in Pretoria
On 18 September 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa held its third bilateral political consultation in Pretoria. Discussions focused on enhancement of bilateral political and economic cooperation as well as coordination of actions in international fora. The two delegations exchanged their views on global and regional issues. Ideas were shared on how to encourage more intense business, academic and cultural relations between the two countries.

According to the protocol No. 6 of 6th June 2019, adopted by the Commission for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, the Commission has approved for the implementation the following project concept: “The Education of South African youth in the field of corruption prevention”. RSS NATO Foreign Ministers discuss Alliance’s response to coronavirus pandemic
On 2 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers by secure videoconference for the first time in the Alliance’s history. The meeting discussed the Alliance’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, NATO’s role in the Middle East and North Africa region. NATO Ministers also exchanged their views on Russia, arms control, and relations with partners.

On 31 March, an aircraft of Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways landed at Kaunas airport with 111 citizens returning to Lithuania from Vietnam and Thailand thanks to the efforts of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Lithuania in China, and the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Vietnam Nguyen The Kien.

On 23 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in a video conference of the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers, who exchanged views on the international response to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) with a particular focus on the repatriation of EU travelers stranded abroad. Foreign Ministers also discussed how to step up international cooperation in order to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 10 March, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania, Vilnius held the Bucharest Nine (B9) meeting of the foreign ministers of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Delegates from the United States of America and NATO attended the meeting as guests. Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, greeted the participants in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
