Commemoration the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Johannesburg

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in South Africa participated in the International Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre.
The event honored Jewish survivors with a candle-lighting ceremony, a musical performance, and a keynote address by Professor Shirli Gilbert on Jewish refugees from Nazism in Africa. Holocaust survivor Wanda Albinska shared in her message that "it is now more important than ever to remember the Holocaust and its victims, because only solidarity and the unity of people will ensure that such events never happen again."
