The higher education institutions are of two types – universities and colleges (non-university higher educational institutions also known as schools of applied science). There currently are 18 universities and 20 colleges in Lithuania. University studies provide universal academic education, theoretical training and the highest level of professional excellence. Higher education studies in colleges are oriented towards training for professional activities. In colleges practical training covers at least one third of the study programme. There are three cycles of studies: first, professional Bachelor’s or Bachelor’s (BA) Degree, second, Master’s (MA) degree and the third would be the Doctorate (PhD) degree. Studies can be of different intensity - full-time and part-time.
All diplomas received at graduation are internationally recognized in the entire European Union.
