Renewal of personal documents at the External Service Centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town
Starting from August 2025, Lithuanian citizens residing in Johannesburg or Cape Town can submit applications for the renewal of personal identity documents through the external service provider, VFS Global.
At VFS Global centres, applications can be submitted for:
- Issuance or renewal of an identity card (ID card).
- Renewal of a passport, when simultaneously applying for the issuance or renewal of an ID card (ID card + Passport).
The above-mentioned services can be provided under the following conditions:
- Your personal data (name, surname, sex, etc.) has not changed.
- You, or the minor child you represent, already possess a personal identity document – either a passport or an ID card. The validity of this document may have expired.

IMPORTANT: VFS Global centres DO NOT accept applications for:
- Issuance or renewal of a passport only.
- Issuance of a return certificate or a temporary passport.
- Changes to personal data on the identity document such as name, surname, date of birth, place of birth, sex, or personal code.
- Issuance of the first personal identity document to a child.
- Issuance of the first personal identity document after acquiring Lithuanian citizenship.
- Issuance of a new personal identity document to replace the sole document lost.
These consular services can only be provided by institutions in Lithuania or by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in South Africa (Pretoria).
