Embassy of Lithuania to co-finance development cooperation project “From unemployed youth to skilled coders, building the tech industry in South Africa”
On 8 September 2022, Lithuanian Embassy in South Africa signed Contribution Agreement with Project CodeX Foundation for the implementation of the development cooperation project “From unemployed youth to skilled coders, building the tech industry in South Africa” to contribute 10 000 euros towards it. The goal of the project is to find candidates with high potential to succeed in a coding career, reaching out to young people from communities that are not exposed to tech and tech careers, Embassy of Lithuania
The long-term objective is to increase the representation of women in software development. This outreach project provides participants with exposure to computational thinking and lead to participation in effective program that places graduates in sustainable tech jobs, improving their prospects in life and creating pathways to tech careers for young people from disadvantaged communities.
Cara Turner, CEO of Project CodeX Foundation, on behalf of the board, staff and coders, thanked for supporting outreach program to inform young people in disadvantaged communities of job opportunities in coding, and to recruit young people, particularly women, of high potential to join CodeX coding program.
The project is also supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. Lithuania is very grateful to the High Commission of Canada for their partnership on this important initiative, which reflects the importance of gender equality as a value shared by Lithuania, Canada, and South Africa, said Diana Kopilevic, Deputy Head of Mssion of Lithuania in South Africa.
