Events to commemorate the third anniversary of russia's war against Ukraine were hosted in South Africa
On 24-27 February 2025, to mark the third anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion and war of aggression against Ukraine, a series of lectures by Dr Konstantinas Andrijauskas, Associate Professor of Asian International Relations at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (Lithuania), and discussions were organised in Cape Town.
Dr. K.Andrijauskas gave lectures for students of the Universities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, studying journalism, films and media. He presented an experience of Baltic States fighting with russian and Chinese information attacks, analysed the impact of disinformation on the media and society and discussed about dissemination of false narratives. Especially in the context of the war against Ukraine.
Lithuanian academic participated in discussions on artificial intelligence, its impact on media and governance together with representatives of the South African government, media, and non-governmental sector. The event was designed to draw attention to the risks of disinformation and needs to strengthen the resilience of society and media to fake news. The Lithuanian experience in combating disinformation were valuable part of the discussions on how to improve South Africa's information space.
During the visit dr. K.Andrijauskas also met with EU diplomats and representatives of the Lithuanian community in Cape Town and shared his views on the current geopolitical situation and Lithuanian foreign policy and its support for Ukraine.
