Honoring the Memory of Lithuanian Diaspora Members in Pretoria on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days

On the occasion of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, the Embassy of Lithuania in the Republic of South Africa traditionally paid tribute to the memory of the Kuisis family, who lived in Pretoria.

Ambassador Rasa Jankauskaitė, together with embassy staff, visited the Lithuanian graves at Rebeka Cemetery in Pretoria, where some of the first Lithuanians to settle in South Africa are buried – Vincentas Kuisis (1870–1927) from Žemaičių Naumiestis, his wife Marijona Kuisienė (1882–1959), and other members of their family. The Kuisis family actively nurtured Lithuanian culture, bringing the local community together and promoting the preservation of national identity.

By honoring the memory of the Kuisis family, the embassy continues the tradition of remembering Lithuanians whose efforts laid the foundations of the Lithuanian community in South Africa.
