International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of South Africa joins the international community in solemnly commemorating the six million Jewish men, women, and children who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust, as well as millions of other innocent victims of Nazi persecution.
This day serves as a powerful reminder of one of the darkest chapters in human history and calls upon all nations to reflect on the consequences of hatred, intolerance, and indifference. Lithuania honors the memory of its Jewish community, which for centuries formed an integral and vibrant part of Lithuanian society and culture before being nearly destroyed during the Second World War.
The Embassy reaffirms Lithuania’s strong commitment to preserving historical truth, promoting Holocaust education, and combating antisemitism, racism, and all forms of discrimination. Remembering the Holocaust is not only an act of respect for the victims, but also a responsibility to future generations to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.
