Lithuanian Ambassador presented copies of the letters of credence in the Kingdom of Lesotho

On 14 May, 2025 the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania HE Rasa Jankauskaitė, residing in Pretoria, presented copies of the Letters of Credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho Honourable Lejone Mpotjoana.

During the meeting, the Ambassador emphasized Lithuania‘s aspiration to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation with Lesotho. Hon. Minister Lejone Mpotjoana expressed the desire to further strengthen cooperation between Lesotho and Lithuania and highlighted the aim to attract direct foreign investment to Lesotho in key areas as green energy and agriculture. He also asserted that technical assistance and support to combat corruption in Lesotho is needed.

The Minister underlined that the country has high solar, wind and hydro energy potential and looks for solutions how to integrate clean, renewable energy to the regional electricity grid in Southern African Development Community (SADC). The current challenges facing the Lesotho economy, including the impact of recent US tariffs on its exports and social sectors such as healthcare and education, were also highlighted.

The Government of Lesotho has adopted a unilateral decision to waive visa requirements for all citizens of the European Union, including Lithuania. Technical preparations for the implementation of this decision are currently underway.

Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Lesotho were established on July 20, 2020.
