Lithuanian citizens will be able to travel to the Republic of South Africa without visas for stays of up to 90 days
Starting from October 7, 2025, citizens of the Republic of Lithuania can travel to the Republic of South Africa (RSA) without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days.
The decision was made by the RSA Department of Home Affairs, introducing a visa-free regime for holders of Republic of Lithuania passports traveling to the country for short-term trips. From now on, Lithuanian citizens will no longer need to physically send documents to the RSA Embassy in Stockholm or complete an electronic visa application on the RSA e-visa system.
"This long-awaited diplomatic achievement is the result of consistent efforts by both countries to strengthen bilateral ties, promote tourism, cultural exchange, and business cooperation. This is a historic moment for Lithuania-South Africa relations. The visa-free regime will open up new opportunities for our citizens to explore South Africa's culture, impressive nature, and establish business contacts. We hope that this step will contribute to the growth of traveler flows and even closer economic ties," said Rasa Jankauskaitė, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of South Africa.
The visa-free regime complements the existing legal basis for bilateral cooperation. Since December 14, 2022, an agreement on a visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports has been in force, and since May 1, 2023, Lithuania was included in the RSA electronic visa system.
This decision once again confirms the mutual aspiration of Lithuania and the Republic of South Africa to strengthen partnership, promote people-to-people links, and expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.
