Lithuanian universities visiting South Africa: promoting study opportunities in Lithuania and exploring cooperation pathways in higher education area
On February 20 – 24, 2023, a delegation from the Lithuanian Education Exchanges Support Foundation and 8 Lithuanian Universities are visiting South Africa. The purpose of the visit is to present opportunities for higher education studies in Lithuania to South African students, school representatives, and to discuss cooperation opportunities between Lithuanian and South African universities.
During a week long visit the delegation met with the South African secondary school principals, participated in the King David schools network career expo in Johannesburg, visited Herzlia Jewish school in Cape Town to promote study opportunities in Lithuania to the South African senior year secondary school learners, their parents and the school leadership. University representatives paid visits to some of the biggest South African universities including Pretoria University, Johannesburg University, Witwaterstrand University, Stellenbosch University and Cape Penninsula University of Technology. Much common interest was identified in various areas especially the medical, engineering, technology studies.
In his welcome address at the embassy H.E. Dainius Junevičius, Ambassador of Lithuania, stressed the importance in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and South Africa in the education and academic fields. “By organizing the visit of the Lithuanian Universities and Educational Exchange Support Foundation to South Africa, we pursue two main goals: first of all, to attract as many of the best South African students as possible to study in Lithuania, where they can choose high-quality internationally accredited study programmes in English from more than 600 programmes in various cities of Lithuania. Secondly, to open paths and strengthen cooperation between South African and Lithuanian universities”, said the ambassador.
There were 14 representatives from Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Kaunas University of Technology, University of Health Sciences, Klaipeda University, Mykolas Romeris University and Kaunas University of Applied Sciences including representatives from the Education Exchanges Support Foundation of Lithuania.
