Ambassador of Lithuania Attends Launch of “Portraits of Power: Historicizing Women’s Stories” in Pretoria

On 9 March 2026, in Pretoria, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Rasa Jankauskaitė, participated in the official launch of the initiative Portraits of Power: Historicizing Women’s Stories, organised by the Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute in partnership with the South African State Theatre.

The initiative honours remarkable women who have shaped societies and advanced social change in their communities and beyond. Through portraiture and storytelling, the project highlights women’s leadership, resilience, and lasting contributions while inspiring future generations.

The exhibition will feature portraits of Charlotte Maxeke and the four women who led the historic 1956 Women’s March, as well as inspiring women from around the world. The full exhibition is scheduled to open in August, during Women’s Month in South Africa, and will also include one notable Lithuanian woman, whose portrait will be painted by artist Onela Wellem.
