Registration of a marriage contracted abroad in Lithuania

Lithuanian citizens who marry abroad must have their marriage registered in Lithuania. One of the spouses, who is a Lithuanian citizen, must submit the application and documents in person at the consular office (prior appointment by email at kons.za@urm.lt is required).

Required Documents:

Valid Lithuanian passport or ID card.
Application form to register a marriage contracted abroad. DOWNLOAD
Marriage certificate issued by the foreign state (legalized or authenticated with an Apostille).
Translation of the marriage certificate into Lithuanian (the embassy does not perform or verify translations).
Consular fee: 50 EUR.

If you wish to obtain an extract certifying the marriage record, please also submit:

Application to issue an extract certifying a vital record entry at the diplomatic mission. DOWNLOAD
Consular fee for the extract: 20 EUR.

Note: You may also apply online via the Centre of Registers self-service website. If applying by registered mail or courier, send documents directly to a civil registry office in Lithuania, not the embassy. Mail/courier applications are not accepted at the embassy. If this is not your first marriage and a previous divorce was only registered abroad (not recorded in Lithuania), you must also submit a foreign-issued divorce certificate or court judgment (legalized/Apostilled with a Lithuanian translation).
