Registration of a child's birth born abroad in Lithuania

A child's birth abroad can be registered in Lithuania through the following methods:
- In person: At the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in South Africa or a civil registry office in Lithuania (prior registration by email at kons.za@urm.lt is mandatory before visiting the embassy).
- Online: Via the Centre of Registers self-service website (if you use Lithuanian electronic banking or have an electronic identification tool).
- By registered mail or courier: Sent directly to a civil registry office in Lithuania (not to the embassy).
Important: Applications for registering a birth registered abroad must be submitted to the embassy in person. Documents sent by mail or courier are not accepted.
Either parent (the applicant must be a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania) or a legal guardian may apply at the embassy. If a guardian applies, their passport or ID card must be presented along with the document establishing guardianship.
Required Documents:
- Application form to register a birth registered abroad. DOWNLOAD
- Child's birth certificate issued by the foreign state (legalized or authenticated with an Apostille).
- Translation of the birth certificate into Lithuanian (the embassy does not perform translations or certify their accuracy).
- Passports or ID cards of both parents (the applicant's document must be valid).
- Child's foreign passport (if applicable).
- Consular fee: 50 EUR.

- Application to issue an extract certifying a vital record entry at the diplomatic mission. DOWNLOAD
