Recordings of the online events, dedicated to commemorate the year of the Vilna Gaon and the History of the Jews of Lithuania

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

During November 2020, the Embassy of Lithuania, in cooperation with the other distinguished counterparts in South Africa, Israel and Lithuania, has arranged a series of virtual events, dedicated to commemorate the year of the Vilna Gaon and the History of the Jews of Lithuania.

The first event – a webinar “Reflections on Lithuania’s Jewish Past” - https://www.jhbholocaust.co.za/event/webinar-reflections-on-lithuanias-jewish-past/ was organized in cooperation with Mrs. Tali Nates, Director of the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, Dr. Jon Seligman from the Israel Antiquities Authority, Dr. Lara Lempertienė from the Judaica Research Centre of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania and Dr. Jurgita Verbickienė from the Vilnius University Faculty of History.

The second event – a webinar “Reflections on Lithuania's Jewish past. Part II”, http://za.mfa.lt/za/en/news/invitation-to-a-short-panel-presentations-reflections-on-lithuanias-jewish-past-part-ii was organized in cooperation with Mr. Gavin Morris, Director of South African Jewish Museum in Cape Town, Mrs. Milda Jakulytė-Vasil, Chief Curator of the Exhibition of the Museum “Lost Shtetl”, Lithuania, and Mr. Sergey Kanovich,  founder of the Litvak Cemetery Catalogue "Maceva", founder and Project Leader of "Lost Shtetl" Museum.

The third and final event to commemorate the Year of the Vilna Gaon and of the History of the Jews of Lithuania was a Concert "A Letter from the Past: Yiddish Songs", performed by Lithuanian tenor Rafailas Karpis and pianist Darius Mažintas http://za.mfa.lt/za/en/news/the-concert-from-vilnius-vilna-lithuania-a-letter-from-the-past-yiddish-songs-is-back-on-track-click-to-see-more and broadcasted from the heart of Vilna.
