The agreement for the implementation of the development cooperation project signed
The Republic of Lithuania, while increasing development aid and aiming to contribute to the achievement of the goals set by the new United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is gradually expanding the geography of such aid.
On 21 May 2021, Mr. Dainius Junevičius, the ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania and Mr. Alef Meulenberg, the CEO of the NPO Afrika Tikkun, signed mutual partnership agreement for the implementation of the development cooperation project - “The Education of South African Youth in the Field of Digital Skills Development”.
In the frame of this project a Digital Library Management System will be set up to enable young South Africans, their parents and partner organisations to access and borrow from a catalogue of select eBooks, audiobooks, video learning material and content remotely.
The Republic of Lithuania has allocated ten thousand euros to fund the project.
During the event, the ambassador Mr. Dainius Junevičius and minister counsellor of the embassy Mr. Antanas Baltušis greeted the representatives of the NPO Afrika Tikkun and thanked them for the excellent collaboration.
Mr. Alef Meulenberg, the CEO of and Ms Palesa More, the relationship manager of the NPO Afrika Tikkun, expressed their satisfaction with the Lithuanian contribution to the development of the digital skills of the youth from local communities and their hope that the cooperation will continue into the future.
Since its establishment in South Africa in the end of 2015, it will be the Embassy’s third Development Cooperation project in the country, implemented with local partner organizations.
