The Day of the Restoration of Independence of Lithuania was celebrated in Pretoria

On March 16, the Embassy invited Lithuanians in South Africa to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania. The event was attended by the Lithuanian communities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

In her address, Lithuanian Ambassador Rasa Jankauskaitė emphasized the importance of this date not only for Lithuanian history, but also for today's geopolitical situation. On the occasion of this significant anniversary, Lithuania's struggle for freedom was remembered, when on March 11, 1990, after fifty years of Soviet occupation, Lithuania regained its independence. The Ambassador was pleased with how much Lithuania has achieved in these 35 years and has become one of the richest and most innovative countries. She also emphasized that in today's world, freedom and independence are not a given - they must be constantly defended and protected. Concluding her speech, the Ambassador urged everyone to remain united, protect what we have created, and look boldly to the future.
