The Embassy celebrates 30 years anniversary of diplomatic relations with South Africa
On 30 November, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of South Africa, the Lithuanian Embassy in Pretoria hosted a reception inviting representatives of the South African government, organizations and businesses, as well as members of the Lithuanian and diplomatic community.
"After regaining independence and achieving freedom in the early 1990s, both countries have come a long and meaningful way strengthening democracy, ensuring respect for human rights and raising the level of prosperity for their people. At the same time, we have followed a common path of our bilateral relations by expanding and strengthening cooperation in numerous fields: holding regular political consultations between foreign ministries, growing trade between the two countries, expanding business contacts, establishing dialogue between various state and scientific institutions, initiating cultural and artistic exchanges. We can be happy and proud of that, " said Ambassador Dainius Junevičius.
An exhibition of selected paintings by Pranas Domšaitis, a Lithuanian expressionist artist who lived and worked in the Republic of South Africa in the 1950s and 1960s, was presented.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 20 November 1991, after signing the communication.
