The exhibition Sounds of Silence by Raimondas Paknys was opened in Johannesburg
Lithuanian Embassy to South Africa in cooperation with Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Center on 24 November opened the exhibition, commissioned by Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by Raimondas Paknys- Sounds of Silence.
Thirty photographs depict houses of prayers, cemeteries and the other Jewish heritage in Lithuania. The Sounds of Silence reflect the vibrant community in the past and what remained of it after the Holocaust and the Soviet neglect. During the opening, the visitors were able to compare the heritage which was documented by the photographer more than 10 years ago and the Jewish heritage reconstruction projects that have been implemented recently or are currently being implemented in Lithuania.
The exhibition, before coming to South Africa, was presented to the audiences of Vilnius, Jerusalem, Paris, London. The Sounds of Silence is scheduled to be opened in Durban and Cape Town in 2017.
