The memory of the deceased prominent members of Lithuanian diaspora was honoured on All Saints' and All Souls' Days

In keeping with Lithuanian tradition on All Saints' and All Souls' Days (November 1 and 2) we honour the deceased prominent members of Lithuanian diaspora.

Lithuanian Ambassador Rasa Jankauskaitė and Embassy staff visited the graves of Vincent Kuisis (1870-1927), his wife Marijona (Kuisis, 1882-1959) and their family members in the Rebecca Cemetery in Pretoria. Kuisis family was among the first Lithuanians arrived from Žemaičių Naumiestis to South Africa, who were promoters of Lithuanian identity and culture.

The Embassy together with Mrs Marcelle Mclachlan (Kuisytė), who has recently got the Certificate of Lithuanian Descent, lit memorial candles and laid flowers on Kuisis family graveyard. Mrs Marcelle told interesting facts about her family, who had gathered the Lithuanian community around them.

A representative of the Lithuanian community Mrs Asta Ashley has visited the grave of the famous Lithuanian artist Pranas Domšaitis in Cape Town.
