The victims of the Holocaust commemorated in Johannesburg

On 5 May Johannesburg Jewish community, the largest in South Africa, commemorated the victims of Holocaust during the annual Yom Hashoah day.

The event, which was organised by South African Jewish Board of Deputies and took place by the Martyr’s Monument in the West Park Cemetery, was attended by the members of diplomatic community, the representatives from Gauteng Government and Johannesburg Jewish community. Holocaust survivor Veronica Phillips told moving personal story about fabulous life in pre-war Budapest which turned out into imprisonment in the concentration camp, forced labour and exterminated relatives.
Lithuanian Embassy was represented at the event by the third secretary Martynas Taujanskas.
